ALERT/Happy Animals Association has been a strong opposer of use of animals for ‘rural sports’. Mr Manoj Oswal was instrumental in getting them banned in 2014 all around the country.

In 2017 the state of Maharashtra introduced amendment in the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 to permit bullock cart races in Maharashtra.

Ajay Marathe a firebrand activist from Thane and Manoj Oswal filed independent petitions in the High Court of Bombay. The petition by Mr Ajay Marathe was heard by High Court and it directed the state to not to permit any bullock cart races till further orders.
